Bungalow Kitchen Remodel in Cal Heights

Traditional bungalow kitchens can be a challenge to adapt to today’s modern lifestyles.  How can you keep the historic character of a home and still make room for a chef to prepare his favorites for a crowd? Our design-build team went to work for a young professional couple to combine their love of bungalow living with their love of a great gathering.

In the kitchen remodel of this California Heights Spanish-style bungalow, some walls were opened up, others closed up. Room was borrowed here and given there. Old window openings were closed, new windows opened up. Room was made for upscale appliances including a custom-color 36″ professional gas range and an undercabinet beverage chiller. Quartz Countertops from Cambria provide plenty of room for food preparation, staging, and the ultimate espresso machine.

Merlot-colored enamel finish and traditional details on this Bertazzoni Heritage Series range create a colorful focal point in the kitchen

The traditional shape and earthy colors of the concrete floor tiles are echoed in a more modern palette in the backsplash.

A wine chiller, expansive countertop, and easy outdoor access via a custom-finished craftsman door make entertaining a breeze

The new, large kitchen window is designed to replicate the mullion pattern of the original windows yet let in more natural light.  The new backdoor moved to make room for a full pantry and was custom-colored to match the merlot-red of the range.
