There’s Nothing Like a Rustic Farmhouse Kitchen

Opening up the floorplan was the main objective of this project taken on by the pros at Zieba Builders. Previously, this great room was no great room. Instead, the kitchen, a formal dining room, and a living room were compartmentalized and walled off from each other. To alleviate this, our team made several significant structural alterations.

What Is a Rustic Farmhouse Design Style?

The design style of this incredible transformation was a rustic farmhouse kitchen, which celebrates the rough-hewn and all-natural. Some of the key elements you’ll see in rustic farmhouses include repurposed items, rusted or distressed finishes, natural fibers, and unfinished woods.

While the farmhouse design style on its own opts for a more traditional look, the rustic decor helps to add in even more natural elements to this wildly popular design style.

It’s Time to Open Up

Dividing walls were replaced with an elegant and load-bearing exposed beam. We smoothed out the vaulted dining room ceiling and moved the kitchen to the other side of the newly created great room.

With the primary goal of creating continuity, we modeled the custom brick backsplash after the existing living room fireplace, thereby making a seamless transition between old and new.

This kitchen comes together as one in combination with a dark hardwood floor in sync with the ceiling beam, custom white shaker cabinets, and an elegant blue island. It lends a touch of coziness and an inviting rustic flair. Complete with a Whitehaven farmhouse sink, statement faucet, and fabulous Bertazzoni range, the modern farmhouse look feels right at home in coastal California!
